Monchhichi, Monchhichi, oh so soft and cuddly! With their fuzzy little bodies, freckled faces, big round eyes, and thumbs parked in their mouths, kids went bananas over these cheeky little monkeys! Created in Japan by Sekiguchi in 1974, Monchhichis swung into North America in 1980 when Mattel brought them across the Pacific. Hanna-Barbera joined the monkeying around in 1983 when it gave the little thumb-suckers their own Saturday morning cartoon on ABC. In 1985, Mattel gave all this monkey business a thumbs-down and dropped the line due to poor sales.
